Janet's Brown June 2011

First time using carbon filter!
Mash temp staying very low during sparge...think about mashout next time
Recipe as per Zainasheff and Palmer: Brewing Classic Styles

All Grain
5 Gallon Batch
Yeast starter begun at 630pm
Strike Water 6 Gallons at 170F
721PM Mash on at 154F Had to add @ .5 gal of cold h2o to get temp. ( slightly high possibly due to summer temps)
1 hour mash ending at 821
Temp of mash at 821 is 150F
Sparging with 180F (8 gal)
1oz in kettle as 1st wort hop
838PM 1 gal in kettle 19 brix
848pm 2 gal in kettle 20 brix
858 3 gal in kettle 20 brix

908 4 gal in kettle 18 brix
918 5 gal in kettle 14 brix
928 7 gal in kettle 12 brix
932 8 gal in kettle 12 brix (1048 SG)

1000PM Boil on
1030PM 60 min hops 1 oz nbrewer
1115PM 15 min hops 1 oz nbrewer and Irish moss
1125pm 10 min hops
1130pm 0 min hops
